Today I happened upon this impromptu dance event on Carrera 8 and 19th St. It's not a popular spot for musical performances. The band, Alegria Vallenata, had set up on Seventh Ave., which is frequented by shoppers and tourists, but the police made them move. So, they shifted to this spot beside an empty lot on busy 19th St., ordinarily the territory of street vendors and drunks.
I doubt the musicians received their usual harvest of coins. But the drunks and other bystanders clearly enjoyed the music lots more than the shoppers on Seventh Ave. ordinarily do.
